Preparing for Tough Conversations
Checklist before you start — and when it's better to wait.

The CALM method (RUHIG)
Keine schnellen Schuldzuweisungen. Keine voreiligen Strafen ankündigen.
H — Herausfinden, was passiert ist: Nutze offene Fragen statt Verhör.
I — Im nächsten Schritt gemeinsam handeln: Sicherheit prüfen, Beweise sichern, blockieren und melden, Konten schützen, Schule oder Plattform einbeziehen, professionelle Hilfe holen — wenn nötig.
G — Gespräch später wieder aufnehmen: Ein Gespräch löst nicht immer alles. Vereinbart, wann ihr wieder sprecht, was bis dahin passiert, wer was übernimmt und woran ihr erkennt, ob weitere Hilfe nötig ist.
Before you start
- Am I calm enough?
- Is the child available right now?
- Do we have enough time?
- Are siblings or other listeners out of the way?
- Do we need to address an immediate danger first?
- Do I need information about the platform or situation beforehand?
A good opening
I want to talk to you about something important. Do you have time right now, or should we find a better moment?
What to avoid
- starting in the middle of an argument
- during an ongoing online game
- right before school or bedtime
- in front of other people
- when a parent is out of control themselves
