When a Child Makes a Mistake

Safety, repair, responsibility — without immediate shame.

Connect → Understand → Protect → Set boundaries → Follow up

The CALM method (RUHIG)

Keine schnellen Schuldzuweisungen. Keine voreiligen Strafen ankündigen.

HHerausfinden, was passiert ist: Nutze offene Fragen statt Verhör.

IIm nächsten Schritt gemeinsam handeln: Sicherheit prüfen, Beweise sichern, blockieren und melden, Konten schützen, Schule oder Plattform einbeziehen, professionelle Hilfe holen — wenn nötig.

GGespräch später wieder aufnehmen: Ein Gespräch löst nicht immer alles. Vereinbart, wann ihr wieder sprecht, was bis dahin passiert, wer was übernimmt und woran ihr erkennt, ob weitere Hilfe nötig ist.

Key points

A child who expects immediate shame or complete removal of their device is more likely to hide the next problem.

A good opening

I'm glad you told me. Let's focus on fixing this first. We can talk about rules and consequences afterward.

Key points

  • Safety: Is someone in danger? Are there threats? Are private data or pictures involved?
  • Repair: Delete, report, secure, apologize, warn contacts, protect the account.
  • Responsibility: What should be learned? What consequence is appropriate? How can trust be rebuilt?
  • Better to say 'That decision was risky.' instead of 'You are irresponsible.'
